Sentian Priest[edit | edit source]

A race of statues, guided by a divine mission. Sentians are always on a mission as an apostle of the god that animated them, and are given divine powers to aid them on their quest.

This particular Sentian was animated by the God of Money, Gamel. While they aren’t quite as intelligent as other races, their strength and vitality is quite remarkable, and allows them to keep healing their friends without tiring. As with all other Sentians, their [Engraved Symbol] allows them to cast Divine Magic without the use of a Holy Symbol, allowing them to keep their hands free for other equipment.

Sentients belonging to other gods of the First Sword, Lumiere, also gain [God’s Grace], increasing their resistance to Curses, as well as [In the Name of God], which gives them the ability to cast Divine spells without expending MP. Both of these abilities add to their resilience in combat, letting them outlast even the most oppressive onslaught and maintain a presence on the battlefield to heal when needed.

This character has also taken levels in the Ranger class, allowing them to use various herbs and medicine with increased potency. Combined with the “Morale” spell, which increases Accuracy, this Priest is ready to help out where they can in order to turn the tide of battle. However, don’t be afraid to step out in the frontline, shield in hand, and defend those who are weak!

Sentient PCs[edit | edit source]

Sentians are souls entrusted with carrying out missions for the gods, sent to inhabit sacred statues and stone figures. The process of animating these works of art is quite transformative, with the resulting Sentian looking almost exactly like a human and not the stony figure it once was. Once animated, they move with a focus to carry out the divine will, acting to accomplish the goal they were called for.

Somewhere upon their body is the symbol of the god that gave them their mission, and it glows faintly when the Sentian performs any sort of Divine Magic. As this symbol acts as a Priest’s Holy Symbol, the Sentian can cast Divine spells without having to have a Holy Symbol in hand.

Sentians are rarely seen, so it is unknown how many there are throughout Raxia at any given time. Only a few records remain in some of the more ancient temples, though these records are obviously outdated..Active Sentians typically are seen one of two ways; as executors of their god’s will and the voice of the divine, or indistinguishable from ordinary humans.

Unlike other races, as Sentians are extensions of their god’s will, their classification changes depending upon which god has animated them. For gods of either the First Sword, Lumiere, or the Third Sword, Cardia, the Sentian is considered to be a Humanoid. However, if the god is one of the Second Sword, Ignis, the Sentian is actually considered to be a Barbarous instead.

Sentians are messengers and apostles of the divine, and so their purpose is to fulfill the specific divine mission they were sent to Raxia to perform. Due to this, their biological appearance varies from god to god, and this variance helps them to blend into Raxian society as necessary. At the same time, this also hinders attempts to find out exactly how many Sentians there are in Raxia.

Appearance-wise, they are the same as the original statue, though Sentians aren’t able to reproduce, and have only fleeting knowledge of concepts such as family. From the moment they incarnate, they have as much common sense and knowledge of the world around them as an average adult, but speak with an old-fashioned accent and manner. Their maximum lifespan cannot be confirmed by any reliable source, and even their appearance doesn’t change throughout the years, but they do eat and sleep like any other living being.

Upon completing the mission they were assigned, Sentians will tend to revert back to their statuesque forms and lie dormant until called upon again by their gods. Occasionally, a high-level Sentian will awaken, and some think it may be one of these long-dormant apostles called upon once more. Others say that the high-level Sentian might just be that way from their first incarnation, as they are on a very serious mission. Who is right in this situation is unclear, though both sides argue for their viewpoint to be the correct one.

On occasion, a Sentian may stay active even after completing what they believe to be their mission, and do not return to their statue forms. These Sentians are believed to be pursuing some far-reaching goal of their god, though the truth of the matter lies with the Sentian and their patron.

Sentian History[edit | edit source]

Sentians are a race of people, whether Humanoid or Barbarous, that are the result of a god animating a sacred statue to perform a divine mission. As such, they do not have a family, and have limited knowledge of such concepts. The following is a chart that can give ideas as to what the Sentian PC was doing during the time between their first incarnation and when they have met up with the party to become an adventurer.

First Roll Second Roll History
1~2 1 Born from the result of a massive ritual (either successful or failed)
2 Incarnated to find no one around
3 Waiting for brave people to help fulfill their mission
4 Finding pleasure in fulfilling their mission
5 Incarnated from a nude statue
6 Remembers the sound of their god’s voice giving them a mission
3~4 1 Believes themselves to be the mouthpiece of their god
2 Doesn’t believe they can fulfill their mission alone
3 Has been given multiple missions
4 Is a fervent worshiper of the god they serve
5 Struggling to reconcile their mission and their god’s doctrine
6 Incarnated, but can’t remember their mission
5~6 1 Not their first incarnation

6 Interested in cutting-edge technology and trends

Notes on Sentian Characters[edit | edit source]

Unlike any other race available to PCs so far, the Sentian is not specifically defined as either “humanoud” or “Barbarous”, but varies depending upon the specific god worshiped. Additionally, their Ability Scores and number of starting soulscars also depends upon this choice.

When creating a Sentian character, it is quite important to have a particular god in mind that the character will worship. The following is a list of deities that have special rules for Sentian PCs that need to be taken into account when creating a character.

Lu Lode[edit | edit source]

Although Lu Lode is technically a god of the Second Sword, Ignis, Sentians incarnated in the service of Lu Lode can choose to be either a humanoid or a barbarous. Once this choice is made, it cannot be changed at a later date. Regardless of their choice, their Ability Scores will remain the same as any other Sentian of the Second Sword gods. Something to consider, though, is that a Sentian will generally not live in a society that is different from their classification.

Laris[edit | edit source]

This god never incarnates a Sentian, and there are no Sentians who willingly worship this god.

Sentiant Death and Resurrection[edit | edit source]

Unlike other races, the characteristics and racial traits of Sentians vary greatly depending upon the god they are incarnated by. This variation extends to the treatment of a Sentian’s death and any attempts at resurrection.

Common to all Sentians is that they are incarnated by a god in order to fulfill some divine mission. As such, a Sentian cannot be brought back to life by a Conjurer’s [Resurrection] spell, but must be brought back through a complex ritual in order to pass on their divine mission. However, all Sentians consider themselves incarnated to fulfill their divine mission, and will therefore accept resurrection if possible.

Sentians of the First Sword[edit | edit source]

If a Sentian of the First Sword is slain, failing their Death Check, they will be turned into a stone statue on the spot. Their equipment and personal belongings may be removed, but the statue is treated the same as a corpse. Those who know about Sentians will recognize the statue as a Sentian.

When attempting to resurrect the fallen Sentian, it must be placed in a consecrated site for 1 hour, such as in front of the Sentian’s god’s temple or shrine. Sentians still accumulate soulscars every time it is revived, and must still roll for any soulscar manifestations like other races. Once the Sentian reaches a total of five soulscars, the Sentian is shattered, leaving behind only their equipment and belongings.

Sentians of the Second Sword[edit | edit source]

A Sentian of the Second Sword that fails a Death Check has their body immediately shattered on the spot, and cannot be revived by any means. Their equipment and belongings remain, though.

Sentians of the Third Sword[edit | edit source]

A Sentian of the Third Sword who fails a Death Check has their physical body immediately shattered, as a Sentian of the Second Sword. However, their soul is automatically and immediately incarnated into another form somewhere else (typically a nearby temple of their god or other such sanctified place). Equipment and belongings are left behind in their original location.

In this case, resurrection does not increase the Sentian’s soulscars, but the same soul can only be incarnated a total of three times (so two failed Death Checks). After the third failed Death Check, the soul is ultimately snuffed out, and cannot resurrected further.
